Jane Swales MSSCH, MBCHA, BSc (Hons), RGN, IEB, DIPREF, MIFR - Podiatrist
Jane Swales qualified from Birmingham University in Biological Sciences before training to be a Registered General Nurse at Manchester Royal Infirmary. After 6 years in the NHS, she joined the Army as a Lieutenant in the QARANC. (Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps) Having served a short service commission she rejoined the NHS and worked at Frimley Park Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. It was when she left nursing to start a family that she retrained as a chiropodist/podiatrist. Jane has worked at the clinic since it started 9 years ago, prior to that working in her own private practice.
She has been a chiropodist/podiatrist for 22 years now and offers the usual podiatry treatments; trims toenails, treats ingrown toenails, treats verrucae, pares corns and hard skin, and also offers nail bracing. She is also able to offer a treatment called Wilde-Pedique to rebuild damaged nails, useful for a holiday or spa day or if the toes will be on show. Jane also offers home visits to patients who are unable to visit the clinic.
Jane continues to provide her patients with the latest treatments available. Her latest exciting one, Clearanail, is a British invention for treating fungal nails. It is based upon Controlled Micro Pentration (CMP) that makes tiny holes in the nail plate. This allows the treatment to reach the nail bed in much higher concentration levels than otherwise possible. It is a brand new way to deal with fungally infected toenails.
Functional biomechanics is something that interests Jane and she is able to advise on both young and older patients' foot posture. She has an innovative FootBalance machine which enables the patients to see their feet and how they interact with the ground, and then can mould orthotics to the patient's feet, giving a fantastic bespoke pair of orthotics at reasonable prices and within a short appointment time. The patient goes out wearing the orthotics! If you feel that this might interest you, please call to book a free half hour consultation to discuss how they might help with your problems.
Sandals with orthotics built in are helpful for patients who already wear insoles. This year, Jane has sourced Strive orthotic sandals - currently only for the female patients, unfortunately - which are good to look at and make the feet very happy!
